Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Is that the latin name for the Blue Shiner?

I tried sourcing them last summer but with no luck. I saw them on one suppliers list and they were very expensive. Good luck with your quest

I'm getting too old to remember all those Latin names, particularly in view of the fact that just as you get a name fixed in your head some clever bugger appears and re-names it!

John

ps I must look up the Latin name for the bulb-eating Rabbit.

*Spider (Mark),
I had some a couple of years back (got from Maidenhead Aquatics) and discovered that they are only actually a temperate-water fish (coming from the Southern States of USA) and they weren't really suited to a tropical environment.
They never bred but I do remember the males were randy little devils alright and would harry the poor females mercilessly. Now, they might even have bred, but I never saw any fry.

I know where you're coming from. I refer to quite a few fish from their previous names :)

And yes you're right. Those pesky rabbits!!!

I was planning on putting some outdoors for spring summer autumn. I've read they can tolerate temps down to 6' but I think more around 18' is a norm. If you can get them please let us know, but I would be expecting to pay around 15-20 quid each though!!!!

Nothing has changed on the Forum picture-wise.
I can see your pics, your avatar (still can't lose the temptation to call it an 'aviator') and your signature picture. Might you need to update Java? (Hark at me trying to sound as though I understand these things - I only knew about that because I didn't bother to update it and all my pictures went a bit 'wonky').

John

Sorry Mark, I got so tied up with trying to impress everyone with my computer (lack of) knowledge that I forgot to reply to your question, I moved them to room temperature and they were fine then, more lethargic at around 75 deg but much more active at 68 degrees.
