Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

just so you know how to sex them there are 5 ways to sex angels

1) the 1st black vertical stripe that passes through the eye appears tp be straighter in the male than in the female, in the female the stripe has a definate curve upwards towards the start of the dorsal fin

2)the spines at the base of the start of the dorsal fin are more jagged and irregular in the male than the female

3) the space between the extended ventral fins(feelers) and the start of the anal fin is shorter in males and less curved in females

4)the tube that appears just prior to breeding is differently shaped, in the male it appears to be more pointed and carried at a more forward angle, but in the female it appears to be blunt and appears to be carried at a slight angle to the rear

5)the lower jaw of the male slightly over laps the upper jaw, which is the reverse for the female as her upper jaw slightly overlaps her bottom jaw

hope this helps

the one that is doing all the chasing is female the one being chased is female and the koi angel in the right hand corner looks male but would need a better side on shot to be 100% sure

Thats a great help so do you think I should replace the koi male or remove one of the females ?or do they usually work it out on their own.also does this mean the females are getting ready to mate or just getting mature ?? I'll read up tonite its very interesting :silly:

I would leave them alone, once one female has asserted dominance it should settle down, but if it doesn't or the other angel gets injured I'd remove the victim, the male doesn't seem to be being harassed so maybe she's fighting for breeding rights and if this happens definately remove the second female or it will be ruthlessly attack as the breeding fish protects its eggs and fry
