Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi guys, the lights came on this morning and as the title says one of my yoyo loaches died over night. He was not showing any signs of and sickness or disease in the past few days, but his stomach did look quite bloated.Any idea's? should i be worried about the rest of the stock in the tank?

I have one theory, there is a pair of kribs with fry in the tank, yesterday there were about 25 today there are 9. could he have eaten the fry and got killed in the process?

Stuart.

That is a possibility Stuart - although if killed by the parents there should be signs of an attack on the corpse.
Otherwise just keep an eye on things - the death may have just been one of 'life's little mysteries' but it will be as well to watch closely for the next week or so.

Stuart this is going to seem very silly but loach like yoyo and clown will lie on their sides on the bottom of the tank appearing dead but actually sleeping, makes many keepers think, what killed that guy.make sure he realy is dead not just playin at dead.

I know exactly what you mean paul i have seen them to appear lifeless and some times lying on their sides, but this guy was dead im afraid , his colouring had gone and he was pretty well bloated.

@John, I always kept an eye on this particular loach because of his rapid growth. I bought two of them quite awhile back and where the other one has hardly grown at all this guy was massive (about 3 inches). I didnt see any sign of a physical attack but there was fin nipping , probably after death. All i can do is keep an eye on the rest of them i suppose.

I thought I was the only 1 to keep a group of loachs and 1 or 2 will out grow the others by 3 fold. I know cray fish can produce a hormone in to the water where only 1 will grow to maturity.
Sory to hear your yoyo loach did die, they are super little characters.
