Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Has anyone experience of keeping two silver aro's?

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has experience of keeping two silver arowana's in the same tank?

Reading on the internet that it's not a good idea and they'll fight.

Have the opportunity to buy a 2' one and would be putting him in my 7' tank with my other 2' aro.

My heart is saying yes but my head is saying not to because would hate for something to happen to my aro.

What ye think? I think I'm leaning towards it just being too dodgy

Don't like the sound of that I have to say.....no expert on aros but I think you'd end up with them killing each other....

I used to have 3 full sized ones in one tank.......but I housed them in an aquarium in my office as the tank was rather large.

Although things have changed in 30 years, I doubt that arowanas have changed that much.

There were no problems at all with the fish.

Thanks guys. I'm reading that three would be fine alright but they fight if it's two.

I think it might be just too dodgy so I reckon I'll stick to the one

Well, after one of the staff left the top open after feeding one day......there were only 2 left.
There was still no trouble with the fish when only 2 left (not to say that there was no trouble elsewhere ;) )

Ive seen on NG wild wild schools of silver aros living together in amazon. Im thinking 2 2ft in a 7ft tank is too much. Maybe if they grew up together it would be ok.

Thanks for the help guys, yeah I'm thinking the same Paul.

Would love to but it's just too risky and I wouldn't have a backup plan if things did go wrong.

I'm not going to go through with it. The bio load on the tank is already huge anyway.

I'm sure you weren't happy with that staff member alright Ian!!!
