Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all

I have a spare 60 litre tank with filter and heater. I'm thinking of setting it up and am wondering has anybody any unusual stocking ideas. I may have to rehouse a male Molly to it but that's all so far.

Looking forward to hearing your ideas

Might be too obvious a suggestion but have you considered shrimp?

I would go for a trio of small species plecos, a male and two females, lots of pleco caves anubias and a good filter,
Easy to maintain and great to watch!

Anyone with a aquarium can keep fish,
But it takes real skill to be a fish keeper,

depending on the shape of the tank, it may be suitable for some dwarf cichlids, have a look at some of the Dicrossus species or Tandiacara candidi, a beautiful little fish
or maybe a shoal of any of the following ember tetras, lemon tetras, lorentoensis tetras or Aphyocharax rathbuni , not a shoaler, but great interaction with the fish as they spar for position and display to each other
or only fill the tank two thirds to three quarters full and add a group of the splash tetra species Copella arnoldi..... an absolutley beautiful little fish, not always much to look at in the shops, but give them time to settle and grow and you will not be disapointed, with all of the above you would also have the oppertunity to add some ottos, or small cory species, or maybe a good sized group of coolie loaches.... lots of fish out there to fit the bill... gobies, rasboras, danios etc etc etc

Spot on hammie salty is the way to go and we need more salty heads on here :-)

Hi all. Sorry I only saw your replies now. I don't think they came to my email.
Anyway I got the tank set up over the weekend, I put in a base layer of miracle gro and capped it with gravel I have lots of rock and driftwood in it too. Just doing lots of water changes until the water clears.
I'm going to do a heavily planted tank, and perhaps a walstad tank. It's always interested me that plants could act as a filter, especially in the job I'm in.

Let me know what you think of the scaping
