Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Tank suggestions

Hi lads some help needed I have this tank set up and it's never been really anything eye catching tank is a jewul reckord 800 110 litres using a pat mini filter and an ehiem internal filter not to sure of the model.

I have a lot of big wood and some Java moss attached to a small piece of wood and a plant can't remember the name seems to be going well tho.

I've never really been 100% certain what I want to do with the tank.

Parameters are nitrites 0 nitrates 0 ammonia 0 and P.H is at 6.7 I have some cappata leaves I am planning to add as a leaf litter bottom.

I would like to add some more low demanding plants

The tank has 12 f1 el siverado endlers and 2 bristle nose plecos the endlers will be moving to the chi once the stand is completed and it's cycled.

Because the tank never really had an over all plan I have never been happy with the layout of it I have some nice pieces of wood I could rearrange a bit but looking for some suggestions off the fish keeping community ;) on here.

I have a free day tomorrow to redo it and dicky it up a bit.

I have postponed the plan for the 2 tier rack for a few months so I have decided to just do this tank up a little in the mean time.

Here's how it looks at the minute

The tank looks great. I love that coloured water in tanks.
Have you thought about adding more wood and maybe some anubias ?
Also if you remove the endlers and add a pair of apistos would look great (whichever species you take a fancy to) .

I also like the tanned effect of the water I might add some more bog wood and rearrange it a little good shout on the apistos I picked up a small pair of apistos just now in seahorse and a pair of chocolate gouramis I have free space in the betta trio to house them until I move the endlers to the chi.

I'm brutal with plants so I might try my hand with some Anubis.

Thanks for the advice Eric

Not green fingered here either, more like the fingers of death. I've more or less given up on any plant that doesn't grow attached to a rock so I stick with Java fern, Anubius and Bolbitis.
Big fan of tannin stained water here too. I'm setting up a small tank for my diamond tetras right now (actually in the middle of pimping up a DIY filter) and definitely considering a dwarf cichlid set up in another tank. You could use leaf litter too for the apistos.

Robert if we were all into the same thing the forum would be a boring place :)

Lemon jelly the only thing I have ever managed to grow was duck weed that is as far as my skill with plants go

I picked up a lovely wild pair of apistos today can't for the life of me remember what they are called I'll upload a picture tomorrow when the light go's on.

I think I'll buy a few bits of wood with Java fern and Anubis already attached probally the best route.

even filtration is down to taste, let alone the visuals!

yeah, if you can't grow duckweed then you're obviously not trying to grow them in water

I also wasnt great fan of tanned water. This was mostly due to fact that way back I saw it mostly in tanks which havent been cared for properly.

Having said fast forward few years, you can find scapes "amazonia style" with roots and leafs similarly what you plan and they look amazing!

Just few little touches and Im sure your will be stunning ;)
