Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

There's one guy in Cork that specialises in that sort of thing that is on the forum.

That would be a ecumenical matter!!!

What a memory!!!

Talking of which the actor in Drop Dead Fred and Bottom (and the Young Ones) is Rik Mayall, who for years I thought was a son of John Mayall...but was wrong

Getting back to Killie fish, does any one keep them or is it a question of buying eggs for the UK in the post. My sons got a african frog tank, and according to a frog book, they say Kiillie fish are good inhabitants for african frogs? I have never personnel kept them but the colours are stunning and they only need shallow water which is important for frogs a high water table spells escapes(frogs).

I know Platy252 keeps Killies but don't know of anyone else. I remember an article in PFK about a year ago devoted to frogs. I remember it saying that they need a tank of their own. Due to dietary requirements, waste levels & their ability to damage fish.

I can see were the idea of keeping Killie's with frogs comes from.
Killie's stay at the surface most of the time and frogs at the bottom.
Well the truth is Killie's will also rest on the bottom and this is when the frogs will get to them.
I have tried keeping them together but the frogs always win.
They either catch them and eat them or the Killie's have an almost lucky escape and end up with bad scratches from the claws of the frogs.

A fish that stood the test of time in with frogs ranging from the size of a thumbnail to the size of the palm of your hand was a (i'm sure i will get slated for this ) jewel cichlid. www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=2389
I just kept the one with them and had no problems in the tank. Just keep the water clean since the frogs are messy eaters and the ph around neutral.
If you only have the dwarf clawed frogs and no filter you could try a female Betta in with them.
If you have your heart set on some Killie's post again with the max size of your sons frogs.
