Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Angelfish question

With my South American tank now nearing full completion,Im about 2 or 3 fish away from completing it. Id still like to add another 2 sterbai cory to compliment my existing two.
However I have a question now that I just know is going to cause varying answers.
Im thinking of getting 2 small angel fish.
Im hoping to get them small as they will be in a tank with neons and rummys. While Im aware that neons are a natural food for the angel in the wild,if they are small the odds of them eating the neons are slim to none,as they grow its a risk of course but Im guessing they will have learnt to live together in peace by the time the angels get larger. Im cautious of adding the new angels but they would truly complete the tank.
The present inhabitants of the 160 litre tank are as follows.
1 x Ancistus sp Dolich
2 x sterbai corys
2 x molly
3 x Golden Rams (1m 2f)
3 x small freshwater shrimp
5 x panda corys
7 x neon tetras
7 x rummy nose tetras

There are plenty of plants also and rocks, caves etc..(not that the angels will get into the caves!.

So the question is,will the neons be alright if I introduce two small angels.Am I pushing the boat out on this one,I know people who have neons fine with them, but also people who said they became fish food!! Also any tips on keeping them. The tanks measurements are 100cm x 40cm x 40 cm (HxDxW).
Im not looking to breed the angels.

Hi Gavin,

I have kept angelfish in a community tank with cardinals, neons, glowlights, black neons etc: with no problems

However I have also had angelfish that have gotten aggro & caused havoc for other fish (not very often mind).

In general you should be ok to keep them but if you get an aggro one then swap him back for another in your LFS.

You might not plan to breed them but often they will go ahead and breed anyway. Thats how I got started breeding angelfish many moons ago...

Good luck... :)

You already answered your question:). You may keep them togeder but missing a few feeds and the angels whould look for food:) I don't know if it's gonna be tastier but definetly neons are gonna be healtier food:)). If you like you are welcome to come over and colect two angels for free. I have from 1 day old to two months old so i'll say you can pick the size you like.
