Another Angle Fish Question.
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I am changing my 100L tank with a 200L tank,
I have 5 Corys 4 Beunos Aires tetras, and a Dwarf Gourami in the 100L tank,
Would Angle Fish fit in with this group,
thanks loads,
Mick

I Dont see why not... your Buenos Aires tetras should be big enough (ie bigger than neons ect,not to be in trouble ) and your tank would not be overstocked, just make sure if your planting to have some tough plants in there as the tetras like to nibble on finer leaved plants.

B.A.T.s as we used to know them) can be a little bit nippy but if they are leaving your Dwarf Gourami in peace I would venture to suggest Angels would also be unmolested. In a 200 ltr tank you could get away with five or six small Angels - they will be fairly OK until a pair develops once they reach adulthood. They will then become dominant and you could find that you may have to remove the 'spares' at that point. Of course if breeding is unimportant to you you'll have to 'play it by ear'.
It could well be that you don't actually want a small shoal...but personally I prefer Angels kept this way (I think they do too, they are so nice swimming around together).
But, as they say, the choice is yours.
Hope that helps a little.
John

Thanks for the responses,
My Buenos Aires Tetras are a few years old at this stage so they will be ok as they are about 3 inches long.
As for my plants the B.A.Ts nibble them all the time !! espically the nice soft new green leaves Very Annoying !.
The idea of a shaol of angles really appeales to me !!
Do you guys know of any shops in the Dublin Kildare area that is selling nice angles at the moment ?
Mick

Yes i agree with JohnH, BAT and a few other tetras are fin nippers..
I would be careful putting adult ( 2-3" BAT) with angels...they are very nippy...moreso than tiger barbs at that size..IMO so be careful...

thanks for the info lar,
Rang AV today and am soing to see what they have up there tomorrow.
Am unsure wheather to go for angles or firemouth cichlids, Firemouths probably make more sense for the set up but really want angles. I think my head will have to rule in the end. will have to go and look.
Thanks again lar.

Went up there and had a look around, they have an amazing stock, but still could not make up my mind,
They had some of the most amazing Black Angle fish, I would love them but my BATs would destroy their fins.
They suggested some other fish but just did not feel they were suitable ie. they would get to big.
After all that I walked away empty handed. I think I will spend a little time planting up the tank with some hardy plants that dont require to many extras and getting it the way I like it.
(Ps any suggestions would be much appricated)
Just dont know what to do yet, I suppose these are all good problem to have.
Mick
