Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Shipping from the UK,if the seller is willing to do it,is very expensive,it would push the price way over what you could buy them here for.I was in a well known London shop a month ago,he said to ship a box to the Isle of Man was twice the price than shipping to mainland UK,and I.o.M. is the UK.He says he has a lot of Irish customers, but they collect in person.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

I was thinking earlier that this cant be right that there has to be certain rules etc about the importing and then selling of fish due to infestions, diseases that may come from other countries ?

If you have plenty of money and don't care too much about the fish have a go. I tried it a few times and it does not always go according to plan. I had a few successes but the failures outweighted that several times over. If I want fish from the UK I drive over.

1. Next day delivery from UK by Royal Mail, arrived four days later. Nice milky bag full of fish guts.
2. Specialist courier (and the only one that knowingly transports live fish to Ireland as far as I know) APC, Clearly marked box FRAGILE THIS WAY UP and also WILL BE COLLECTED AT DUBLIN DEPOT PHONE XXXXXX, no phone call on the day expected, so I phoned them the next day, no record of package, that evening I see truck pull up outside and the box thrown out of the back of the van on to the pavement. I got an apology, but that did nothing for the fishes headache! One day late, badly handled and delivery instructions not followed. Survival rate 50%
3. The worst of the lot was shrimp from Taiwan, express postage, 2-3 day service cost about €50 for the postage with tracking. Tracking was great, I watched as my poor shrimp made it all the way to Europe and then back to America and back to Europe again, finally arriving 13 days after postage. Another bag of milky mush. Got the cost of postage back, but not the shrimp or the cost of them.

So as I say if you want fish in the UK best way is to go get them, better still order them here and let someone else worry about delivery arrangements and DOA's

Daragh

PS. Nearly forgot! There is the $200 I paid for Shrimp in USA in January this year, I am still waiting for a refund or shrimp. Email silence, now I am going through the grief of credit card payment cancellation - nothing is easy with importing livestock.
