Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

i would absolutely love to , but unless someone sells a " convince my mother fish " .. then i aint got a snowball's chance in hell

only reason the second tank got the go ahead was because i won it in the raffle at the show , which kinda left her with no choice .....

anyone wanna organise a one person raffle ... nudge nudge

Very nice Duzzy. You weren't long setting up the new tank.
I was briefly talking to you outside the show. You had to carry everything while your mate carried the car keys.
I was slagging you over calling the "Bipindi" kribs.
It looked like you had a good day.

cheers .... i remember you well ...lol

yeah got the new tank set up with mature water and mature filter media ...... doin water changes every 2-3 days for the first few eeks and keepin a very close eye on the levels etc ...

so far all is great but ... i do have a question

i was in cork yesterday and in an lfs down there i saw a discus tank with some amazing specimens in it .

in the bottom of said tank was a bunch of dried leaves .. so i thought immediately they must be something along the lines of almond leaves and water softening etc ..

the man in the shop told me they were actually dried tobacco leaves and i thought for the price of them that it would be worth giving a shot ..

now since i've gotten them home and have done a small bit of research ... i have found out that these ( if tobacco leaves is wot they are )can be toxic ...

would ppl suggest i put these in the tank or would i be better off to try dry them out even further and maybe hand roll a box of 20 for myself

cheers in advance for the help guys:)

I have never heard of tobacco leaves been used in an aquarium. Are you sure he didn't say catappa leaves. Which are Indian almond leaves.

to the best of my knowledge he said tobacco ...... myself and seamus heard him say the same thing ..... although he might have meant catappa now that you say it , cos he did seem pretty unsure about the whole concept of them

hmmm ... might just put some in a bucket for a day or 2 and see wot effect they have on the water

Hmmmmmm you could be right platty, he did have a nice cork accent ;) and the discus in the tank he had them in looked very very healthy...
