Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi Gavin. I have been keeping (and breeding on/off) these for about 2 years now. Here are a few pointers.
They are a shy fish that should be kept in a group. They can jump if startled. So keep a lid on the tank.
They have very small mouths so the food offered should be small. I find them to be a little fussy with there food. Mine dont seem to like good quality flake or pellets. Try offer live food occasionally, brine shrimp, microworms or similar.
Not fussy with water chemistry, but i find soft to neutral is best.
Adults are fine in temperatures between 20c-26c. Fry and young fish need to be kept between 24c-26c.
Adults seem to be short lived at high temperatures and become big or badly shaped.
Fry and young fish can become bellyslides if the temperature is to cool. If it is to hot they are forced to grow big to quickly and end up a terrible shape.
Also plenty of light for fry/young fish to get a good dark body and red fins. Little or no light and they will be pale with no red. Very dim light and the red will be yellow/orange.

This is just my view of these fish. It would be interesting to here from other that keep these.

Thsnks a mill for that info, Im gonna get a few before the weekend and will introduce them to my community tank. I will see how they get on first and may consider breeding them in the future. Im hoping Im not getting to overstock level on the community tank Im adding them to, I should be alright as they are small fish, but can alway move a few fish around if I needed, particularly the cherry barbs, or maybe a few cardinals / guppys. Im also hoping to get another few endlers, so that they might give the guppy a break for once! Also considering getting a dwarf anchor catfish.
As you can see Im into smaller fish, Ive some lovely Spotted Blue-Eyed Gertrudae at present also.
