Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

..so we were having a chat in the fish house the other day and this topic came up..I've been asked by lots of customers over the years and usually I've said the same thing.."I like em all etc.." or i couldn't pick one.I've kept most fish(marine and fresh water) either professionally and privately over the 20 odd years of keeping and have come to the conclusion that it is the humble tiger barb.jeez who'd a thunk it. Over the years I've allways had a little shoal of them in the house no matter what.I just love the dive bombing and general cavorting they get up to. Pretty little feckers too. how about you guys?

dont make me come over there.

I really love the Pentazona Barbs, puntius pentazona , the iridescence of the bars is gorgeous against the background colour.
They don't seem to get that oversized chunky look that other barbs get so they always look young.

No debates for me all sorts of arowanas for me. The only thing that eluded me up to now is a 24k gold bar crossback or pahang gold. A buket merah blue is still in the wish list.

Fishkeeping CV: Co-founded, 1st President of the only surviving Fishkeeping Club (Accredited by Dept. of Fisheries) in the Philippines (mypalhs.com). I have mostly reared tropicals - Arowanas and monster fishes. My oldest arowana is 13years old (died in a tropical storm). Ive since reared a Black,...

Bettas are, hands down, my favourite fish. I have an especially soft spot for black copper dragons like this:

Of course one of the reasons that I like them is because they can be stunning (given good breeding) but they can be little characters as well.
Having a tank of females with an established pecking order is especially fun to watch.

I have to say, for myself it's Altum Angels and most Apistogrammas (sorry, I still think of Rams as being Apistos)...not to mention Zebra Plecos.

The first because after seeing an early photo of one I was smitten, Apistos - they have always been a favourite...really I like all (well, almost all) SA Cichlids...but prefer the smaller fish from a practical point of view. The L-046s - I saw some of the earliest imports into UK and they became a "had to have" fish for me...sadly I could never afford them then but they have to remain on the 'favourites' list.

had to think about this one
and after much thought and consideration
i would have to say that my favourite fish is the striped talking catfish (platydoras costatus)
why ?
it was one of these little fella's that first opened up my eye's and gave me a taste for the more unusual fish out there...

Clown loaches definately

They don't even wait till you go to the tank to start begging for food.
