Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Just completed an overhaul of my tank this morning! what you think? i think its a bit cluttered! might take out the middle piece and add nice stone arrangment. Frontosa will be up for sale soon! gona make the change to angels! think they'll suit the tank.

I have to say, I like it the way it is. The center piece of root is not a tall as the two on either side so still allows for plenty of swimming room. Your new Angels will appreciate that too.

roots came from dimitri in fintastic. i think its called red moor wood..it's normally used for tree hugging reptiles...so it should be interestingn to see what happens over time. I boiled it and soaked it pretty good over 3 weeks. and it already sinking. i had to weigh one piece down. i fully expect the water to turn dirty brown too and hopefully the xmas moss will grow stong on the roots. thanks for te compliments.

Hi Kev,thanks.. I bought myself a Canon 500Dd there about a month ago..€700!! its great! stil getting to grips with the settings though. its already out of date would you believe! canon brought out the Canon 550D in the last 2 weeks!! nightmare! im finding it very hard to get good pics with the aquarium lights on..lots of pics over exposed. might need a better lens, using the kit lens at the minute..its not great.

Amazing, you get to take one pic and lo and behold, it's old, ridiculous, same with Apple products, Computers, tv and on and on but you have to grin nd bare it.

Nice pics tho..

Great photos. What lens you got with it. The 18-55 mm? If you get overexposed images try to set the camera to manual, use exactly the same settings, but close the aperture a step OR reduce the iso used, that's at list what I whould try. To reduce the shutter speed as I see u used 1/50 sec to the next step whould be even a better option in fast moving fish but you whould need to have steady hands or a trepied.

To try to get the camera to do that for you try when u focus to point not exactly on the bogwood but to get half of your subject and half of the white sand, otherwise the lighter parts of the image are gonna be overexposed.

Not a master of photography but anyone with more experience around can correct(if the case) or complete whould be very helpful.
