Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Had a couple of young platies in my tank, given four fry as a present, (dumped on me really)
Recently added 8 Neons and 8 glowlights to the tank, within 3 days was down to 3 of each, Found a couple of perfect little skeletons in the bottom of the tank, thought they might have been fighting with the long finned danios or a couple of the more fridgeity species i had, so i took out the surviours and put them in a holding tank, it was then i got a good look at them, there was bits taken out of them mouths missing, it was pityfull to look at so i ended up with another 2 poping there clogs, decided to put the last four back in and see what happened, they were in the tank no more than 10 seconds and the platies were at them, have now dumped the platies back on the git who dumped them on me, Has anyone ever had this happen to them, was very surprised as platies are vegies and i never seen them get all territorial before

I'm a bit surprised to hear that. Platies are normally peaceful by nature. The only time I have seen them become aggressive is when the male hounds the female which why it is always good to have at least 2 females for every male present. Also the Platy eats just about everything including their own fry.
Maybe your Glowlights/Neons where very young. I Don't think Platys would attack adults.

Are u sure their platies?? Iv never heard of tetra eating platies,, I never kept them myself but iv kept other live bearers. They are generally peaceful, Then can be a little agressive if there are to many males in comparison to females in the tank. U said they are young platties...? How small..

This is interesting. Platies are known for cannibalising their young but personally I have never seen or heard of them attacking and eating full grown tetras and the like. Can you get a pic of the Platies in question?
