Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Lads i have a small bit of whitespot in the tank so im treatin it with protozin and ive raised the temp from 24 to 27 degrees over the last two days, but i have a jaguar catfish and i have been told that they stop eating when the temp goes over 24 degrees and i lost the first one i bought in week one which i think was due to my temp being 26, anyway i brought my temp down to 24 and got another which has been grand till i raised it back up for the treatment, now i seen him out swimming today and that doesnt normally happen till dark. Any thoughts. Hope you's can make sense of that

This is only speculation but the warmer water might well have speeded up the Catfish's metabolism causing it to become more active.

Can you recall if your first one was more active during the daytime at warmer temperatures?

Is the replacement fish swimming normally and taking food?

Some Catfish and Loaches can be rather irritated by Protozin, but I honestly don't know if the Jaguar is one of these, perhaps someone with more experience of them could comment?

Hope it's OK,

John

Thanks John, first jag never really settled i dont think, died after 3 days and i only seen him out the day he died. Have number 2 over a month and every night he comes out after lights out, i always drop in a few pellets but never actually seen him eat. Raised the temp 2 days ago and he is out sitting on a bit of bog wood today with lights on for the first time, small bit of whitespot on him also and cloudy eyes. Anyway i gave him a tip on the tail to see was there much life in him and he shot off in to hiding again.

I keep my one at 26 and don't seem to have any problems. Some sites say to keep them between 20 to 24 others say up to 28. It would be unusual to see it out during the day.

I don't like the sound of the 'Cloudy Eyes' description - are your water perameters alright?
