Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi guys,
Dunno if any of you have come across this before, But last night i was staring at my tank as i normally do and spotted 1 of my female dalmation mollies with a little sac hanging from her, I called the Mrs ( she being from a farming Background) and said something wasn't right here, She said my fish was in trouble as it was probably the sac that carries her young fry. The same molly incidently gave birth both 2 weeks back close on 25 strong fry. As i watched more and more of what i can only explain as gut came out. Being afraid to move her or stress her out anymore i left her be to see how things went, to cut a long story short she now resides in fishy heaven :(
BTW i left her bout 3 days before i returned her to main tank from my birthing tank No problems showing or noticeable at the time
Couple of questions for the more experienced keepers here,
(A) Was there anything i could've done to sort/prevent the problem?
( B ) Is it common?
(C) Should i've given more time before returning her to main tank I keep a single male with about 6 females in tank so i don't think Male was responsible ?

Any idea's suggestions greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Daniel.

Daniel,
I have seen female livebearers (especially Mollies) have these sorts of miscarriages but normally after some sort of trauma.
If the female is feeding OK and not appearing to be suffering from any further difficulties you should find that she will settle down and probably have more young in the fullness of time.
I hope everything is alright with her now?

Sounds like a prolapsed rectum. I dont think it is common but it can happen. Why it happens i dont know.

There was a member on here and his male Frontosa had this problem.
He treated it successfully with methylene blue and salt.
