Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Could you give some more details on your tank such as: dimention, capacity, equipment (heaters, light, filters and so on)? These will help as the quantity and kind of fish depands on the size and capacity of the tank. Then, I am sure there will be a lot of suggestions coming from the forum.
Simply, give as much information as possible, please.

Sorry Craig, still drunk from last night !!!

Rummies would be more than a challenge, you'd top yourself trying to get the conditions right.

You could try Keyholes, Acaras, preferably smaller species. Live bearers wouldn't work as they'd be a live food for Rams as they don't practice Parental care.

There are lots of Gentle South American Cichlids that would be a great project to whet your appetite for successful breeding.

With the correct lighting, Geos are stunning Gems for a large Aquarium, they really shine under strong lighting. Plants and Geos aren't good Bedfellows as they sift substrates looking for food, this unearths Plants and they end up floating on the surface, the best setup for Geos is Woodwork and Rockwork that won't affect the hardness etc, use a non-abrasive Substrate to ensure the big Lips of theirs don't get damaged.

Everybody will wince when I say this but for the sheer fun of watching intense parenting behaviour, you need look no further than either jewel Cichlids or ta da...Convicts but passing on the resulting Gazillions of fry is hard to do. Juwels are just that, juwels, most intense when in breeding colours but you need to try finding a compatible pair as, as a rule, males can be intolerant.

They were no problem but Tank size is a problem, the males, once they have experienced reproduction, will be constantly harassing the female to mate even if she has a Mouthful of Fry, if there is plenty of hiding space they will be fine, depending on the Species, the male will take over the job of brooding .
The adult brooding will obviously lose a large amount of weight as they don't eat while brooding.

It's neat to watch the adults roll the Eggs in the special sac in the Mouth .
