Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I got a 180 litre tank set up and im gradually stocking it.....Its got lots of bogwood, various live plants and a sand substrate...
At the moment I got 6 ottos,12 tiger barbs and an ancistrus in there(all is peaceful).......I tried a rainbow shark with them and believe it or not he was bullying the hell out of the tiger barbs so out he came...
Im just looking for suggestions for a centre piece (showfish) for my tank that aint gonna bully or be bullied and not have hs fins shredded by the tigers.
Something that grows a little larger maybe?

was it defo a rainbow (tail, dorsal and pectoral fins red) and not a red-tailed shark?
the problem is the tigers, i had 2 leporinus fasciatus (grow 1') they are quite the centrepiece, and a red spotted gold severum (wonderful fish) and i was lucky the lep's didn't go to town on the severum's long fins so you may or may not get trouble from them
how long is the tank?
if the tigers keep to themselves you could try a firemouth or salvini, some nice ca/sa cichlid that can hold its own and doesn't have a huge trail of fins

its dependant on the species and the individual fish. i dont think salvinis and firemouths are big plant eaters but then i have no experience keeping them (justinK has firemouths i think they are with plants too)
your other option is more barbs like black ruby or odessa, that really stand out against the tigers as a school rather than a single fish
EDIT: just googled a bit:
animal-world.com/encyclo/fresh/cichlid/salvini.php
www.fishlore.com/profile-firemouthcichlid.htm
says the firemouth can dig up plants. nothing about eating them

A large male pearl gourami would be nice, kept with some females. They get a great red belly when mature and should be able to hold their own aganst the barbs. You could get some boesmani rainbows too. Again very colourful fish that achieve a nice size. Gold or green severums are another option, but you would want to be careful they dont hammer the t-barbs if you get a particularily aggressive individual.
