Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all. Would anyone know why piranha would just stop eating. I have 8 piranhas and up until about 2 days ago they would swim up to the glass when i come in to the room and when i would feed them they would go for they would it it straight away. Now they just stay hiding in the plants and do not eat the food. I would appreciate your help.

a wee bit more info, the size of the tank, how long is the tank set up, how long do you have the fish. do you test the water, if so any unusual readings. wat do you feed them and how often. any tank mates in there that might be attacking them. any recent changing of the house lighting brighter bulbs, moved the telly or so?
Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

yep i'd have to agree with the above suggestions, check water perameters, and could be as dar suggested as well if anything in the enviroment outside the tank has changed it could upset them as well

i got the water tested at the weekend and the nitrates was the only thing out of place at 10ppm. i have them in a 200L tank at the moment but they are only about 2 inches in size. i do a water change once a week and i do a 50% change. the only other fish i have in it is a sucker loche. i have plenty of plants in it and plenty of cover for them to hide. they are under a moon light which is not very bright at all. the only thing i have done to my room was changed the tv but they can not see it directly. they only have a side view of it. also the water temp is at 26 degrees. i have the piranhas just a little over 4 weeks. the tank is set up about 8 weeks. i feed them blood worms also tried shrimp but they weren't too bothered wit them

try varying their diet a bit, with fish, prawns and beefheart. i know another pirahna keeper that had his stop feeding for a few days for no reason, but this was a 7"er.
do you notice any flicking/rubbing of the fish, and are they pooing normally?
if nothing appears to be wrong physically or with the water then i guess just wait for him/her to start feeding normally again

It occurs to me that a 50% water change each week might be a little bit too much?
Although if these are hearty eaters you might need to increase to those sorts of levels as they grow.
It might be worth not feeding them for a few day to see if their appetite returns - but please ensure that any uneaten food is removed.
