Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Is their anyway i can get my old rocks looking like my new ones as you can see in picture that their is a difference, ive tried scrubbing it, and even with a toothbrush and warm water but nothing.
Will all my rock go like this eventually.? why
the other thing is that the tank never gets any direct sunlight,
Which has me thinking could it be from the light reflectors i added, the bulbs are the standard bulbs you get with the juwel rio 240
i get my water checked nearly every week if not at least every second wk. and im told its good or perfect

First Bleach, then after the process of cleaning is done, steep for a Week in a good Dechlorinator.

Lol, bored this Evening.. tv is ehm..... not very interesting!
Get plain Bleach, not the girlie stuff..... leave the Rock in until it looks thoroughly clean/white.. then wash down, outside the container (ye don't want to p off the missus with spotty Jeans), then make up your container with Water that has had dechlorinator added, leave for a few days, moving the Rock around to ensure distribution of Dechlorinator, when a few days have passed, empty out and wash thourouighly, smell the Rocks to make sure there is no Bleach smell and you should be good to go.
( You add the Bleach to the water , stirring it to make sure it's dissolved or evenly spread )
Kev.

i find tv boring all the time mate
Perfect think i can manage that
is their anything i can do to slow this process down in the tank, what do yea think about the reflectors could they be adding to the problem or is it the bulbs im using, or is everyone the same and its just a case of doing the bleach cleaning every 3mts. or so

Algae only grows when there is enough Fertiliser to do so, most Algae problems result from too much Phosphates... the NO.1 cause, aided by either poor lighting or too high an intensity. I am guessing these Rocks don't come from a Planted set-up, therefore I would guess that the cause of excessive algae is due to food being fed to Cichlids etc... you can add rowaphos or Phosex or Phosex ultra to actively remove it, water changes can help, as long as Phosphates aren't high in your Tap Water.
The alternative way to lessen the appearance of the Green Rocks would be to do as I have in the past... rotate the Rocks so the Green surface is out of the light where it wil die and will get lighter in colour.

Thats great thanks kev yeah no plants anymore, i will find out what the phosphates are like in my tap water (dont know what rowaphos, phosex or phosex ultra is) will google them
and i suppose what you have done in the past is not a bad idea either i suppose if i get 3mts of one side i can change them around and get another 3mts. so il only have to clean them every 6mts.
