Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

So i have gone and bought my tank and had my self a very eventfull evening last night with a very noob mistake.

I have bought a boyu 95 litre set up and brought it home last night to get it set up.
So got it out of the box and put the stand together and got it into position with the cables and plugs the way i wanted them. Had a friend to help me fill the tank and had it filled in no time and got everything turned on. so after that we sat down and decided to go get food . Got back to the house and sat down and half way through my kebab the misus says to me can you hear dripping!!!!!.
me and my friend both looked at each other with OH s*** looks on our faces and turned to the tank to see water gushing down the back of the tank there was about one third of the water total gone from what i had put in less than an our ago. Franticly we syphoned out all the water as quick as we could. I rang the guy i bought it from as i am firends with the guy who owns a shop down here. he said leave it empty till morning and he would check it out. Checked it out this morning and we have realized that i am an idiot lol.

Turns out that the spout from the pump was not connected properly and was pumping the water out over the back of the tank.

Moral of the story im a NOOB.
Just thought i would give ya all some amusement. Im sure i will have a few more of these storys before i get fish into the tank.

Cheers for reading
R

Scary story but can easily happen when first setting up.
There is always the danger with large tanks in the house that you come down one morning to find the contents on the floor.
If this were to happen with my 100Gallon tank in the sitting room her indoors would have a fit.
It would be me or the fish to go.
