Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi Everyone,

Not sure where to post this but I'm a beginner so thought this would be a good place. Basically I purchased a 180 litre Jewel tank a week ago. Now although I bought it second hand, I got it locally so the filter was'tn off for long and the fish did'nt have to long of a journey so 10 of my 11 Neon Tetra's, my 2 little catfish and my 2 Angelfish all appear to be in fine fettle. Did a water test 2 days ago and the tank is pretty healthy water chemistry wise as well, however.

One Tetra is displaying unhealthy signs. Firstly I think his colour is'nt great he's not dull he just does'tn have the same glow as the other's, secondly his eyes appear to have bulged, his left one just a little but his right one looks way to big and thirdly he's taking to hiding underneath the filter. Now correct me if I'm wrong but Neon Tetra's are a shoal fish and with 10 other fish in the tank he has plenty of potential buddies but he is'nt been sociable, :( even when the occassional one comes in to say hello!

I've read alot in my tropical fish books and it appears that it could be anything from TB to an eyepop fungus, or just a bacterial infection that may clear up on it's own. So I was wondering do any of the more experinced fish keepers have a) any idea what might be wrong with him? and b) any advice as to how to cure him?

Regards

G.

G,
If you have another small tank to transfer this Neon to it would be beneficial.
If it is something contagious you really want to get it away from your other fish.

I would advise an immediate 20% water change with treated water - bloated eyes are often an indication that all's not well with the water - and I say this in full recognition of the fact that you've tested your water and find it to be OK.

Does anyone have any species-specific advice to add for G?
