Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Looks nice, although I would remove the background especially if you're going with real plants.

On a second note, that stand looks rather flimsy, are you sure it's going to hold the tank weight in the long run?

I'd say if your going with plants just use a plan black or blue background as it may be to over powering, other than that great so far ;)

Murt the live plants will eventually take over the background hopefully, but if you want to leave the backhground up for now, then go for it. Its your tank, you get to choose what you do with it to your liking.
Its a nice tank, what are you hoping to stock with it.
Best of luck with it.

I was hoping Discus, but I reckon my chances for those are diminishing as the tank I reckon will only hold about 160 litres. After testing the tank outside I syphoned back into 20ltr water containers and it gave me 8 containers plus a bit.I rather like the background myself. I'm open to suggestions about stocking the tank.
Thanks for the comments.

I did, and gave my tank as a 200ltr. (120cm x 31cm x 55cm).
I used this one...

Probably stating the obvious, but are those the internal or external measurements of the tank? Even taking 1cm off each measurement to make it internal changes the volume to 192L. Also, you won't have the water up to the brim, so it's better to measure the height only up to the waterline.

Like I said, probably stating the obvious, but that threw me when I first started measuring the volume of my tank...

Hmmm kinda begs the question, when tank manufacturers state volumes are they external dimensions or expected water volume?

When I was looking at buying a tank, I found a lot of differences between stated 'Volumes' and what I'd get when actually multiplying the figures myself. And, of course, it gets even more messy if the tank comes with an internal filter.

Dont forget the decor also takes the place of water, so your tank volume can be significantly less by the time your decor, internals, etc are all in place.

That is a nice looking tank, The back round will be fine until your plants grow and by then you wont be able to see it any way so it wont really matter.

As for stock i always suggest Kribensis breeding pair, neon/ glow light/rummie tetra mid tank and loaches/cory's/otto's for bottom feeders, you can also stick in some armano /red cherry shrimp. Plenty of color, plenty of movement, loads to look at .
