Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi All,
Very Sad day for me today, We had a power cut for 2 hrs in the early hrs of the morning, So due to that and Stress i have lost most of my fish, I am left now with 2 cardinal tetra and 1 lonely Platy.
We have done everything possible now to help these little guys survive, So far so good, Thanks to Wolfie (My Son) who was a big help out,
I am in half a mind now not to get any more fish, As I am relatively new to fish keeping (only since Feb) of this year,
Has anyone else gone trough this? :-((

Hope you stick with, it does happen.

I suggest just stick with the few fish you have for a while and take your time planning what to do next.

Thersea I would suggest you test the water parameters.two hours of a power cut would have no effect on your fish.the power cut didnt cause the deaths.check the parameters of the water and post the results. At this stage dont add any new fish until you find out why those fish died. Also dont let it put you off at all, we have all lost fish and its gutting but part of the learning curve.we have all been there.

Not long ago my fry tank went belly up (heater issue) and killed quite a few of my brisslenose fry. There were about 50 - 60 of them in the tank and I think about 5 survived

Dont give up!!! Its not nice when it happens, but we all learn from mistakes and from the issues that crop up from time to time!!!!

Keep at it.
A few additional water changes might do no harm too, test water weekly and if somethings not right... then do daily checks till everything comes back into place

it's tough when things go wrong on you like that, it's hard not to despair. but we all do it at some point. all it takes usually is a little perspective

"The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of your life; your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you. They're freeing your soul."

there are a few other factors, the fish already had advanced white spot which I had treated the day before including increasing the temperature and a recent issue with filtration didnt helo, however all is now in hand and the tank is being run on organic aqua for the next while

Sorry to hear about the fish loss. A few years bavk I lost over 30 rainbow fish after an air line broke one night. Im still keeping fish, more fish in bigger tanks. Dont see this as a failure but a lesson learned.
