Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

If you have an idea what fish yo are looking for post them here. Someone on here may have seen a particular fish you want in one of the shops recently or one of the sponsors on here may be able to tell you they have the particular fish in stock at the moment or they are getting them in.

hi

i have not decided fully on my stock

i'm just afraid of spending hours researching fish
to find i cant get any of them!

i can see it now, with my grubby scribbed list, in the lfs
to be laughed, at and going home with some neons

i am not necessarily after anything majorly unusual...
i want a capacity correct tank for a beginner
which will have some low light level, non co2 plants

i was just wondering whether you guys take whats in stock or order exactly what you want, and at what cost and wait?

Hey 4,good to hear the tank is nearly ready, any good lfs should be able to get you any fish you want,i dont know much about the shops in dublin,i use aquapaws in galway, one of the sponsors, and they will try to get any fish i'm looking for,but saying that i normally end up bringing something home with me anytime i call in,i find that if you have a look around when you're in the shop you're in trouble straight away, you'll always find something that takes your fancy, and i normally take it home,i'm sure i'm not the only one that does this,at least i hope i'm not, anyway,go to the lfs and have a look,if its a good shop they wont see you wrong

lol, i know, neons are cool,
it was just an example of a generic fish
you would expect to get anywhere

thanks all for the feedback
aquatic village in tallaght is the closest to me
but I get the feeling brittas is a better shop?
is this the case?

I've used the aquatic village for a number of years now & never had a problem with any of the stock from there...

but where ever is closet too you might be the best, tis always handy to be able to pop in and ask \"is this normal\"

I once foolishly bought from an un-named garden / pet store.... and the fish had white spot upon arrival. I didnt notice until I got home.... see how interested in the fish the staff are

Ask a question you all ready know the answer to, to see if they try and bluff you

any of the sponsors of this site are quality stores and give the right advice, look through them and visit a few you'll find one you prefer and as for advise let us all know what you want we'll help if we can, remember the only stupid question here is the one you dont ask
