Completly and utterly dazed and confused
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

it dose sound like the sand ....... but there is hope just give it a day or 2 to settle and if after a week and still not settled then you might have to change the sand

What type of sand was it? U would of needed to wash it 3 or 4 times for some types of sands. I use playsand and spend a while washing it,using small amounts, wash off the mulp (the discoloured brown stuff on the top of the water) and then wash it some more! I think this is almost certainly the problem with the water being cloudy. Also when did u add it as it will take a few days for the water to settle anyhow.

Gavin is spot on, if the sand wasn't rinsed hello pea soup, should settle in a couple of days just rinse the filter in tank water before adding fish as it will probably get clogged from sand particles in it

The sand was \"Aquarium Sand\" it looks well and i'd hope to keep it.Would replacing the water and starting again be any use, Perhaps a new set of filters as well.
I hope to have an established tank for x-mass is this a pipe dream.

hi jars
if you used aquarium sand and washed it fairly well it should be fine.Is it a type of coral sand best for
african or marine fish or is it inert sand for community tropicals?
if you rinse the filter sponges of any excessive sand particles and wipe the inside glass (sometimes dust sticks to the glass and makes the tank appear cloudy) everything should settle down.
30 tanks specialise in african cichlids, angelfish and various catfish

When did u add the sand? Remebmber it can take 4 or 5 days to settle down. Clean the filters (with tank water) as they may be clogged but Im guessing it just takes time for this cloudyness to clear. What time of filter have you?
You wont have to replace the sand again though.
