Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Guess who just moved into my tank ....

Went to the LFS and picked out 2 yellow labs that I liked, as well as 2 blue/black with yellow tails(wanted neon blue chichlids but they were gone). The girl also gave my a little yellow lab for free. I know that means that I wqent out to get max. 3 fish and came home with 5:blush:.

Really wanted the blue ones and the yellow labs, so asked here was 4 ok as first inhabitans of my tank, and she said yeah, so I picked the 4 i wanted(afraid they'd be gone next week).

any one know what the 2 blue ones are?

thanks

any idea's why they keep going up and down in the corners?

the little blue fella's colors have brightened up massively and he is entertaining himself.
the other 4 are zipping from corner to corner, no anyone chasing any the others, they are all chasing one-and-other. then poppig up and down in the corners

Well when they hit the corner they cant go any further,so they go to see if they can get past it. Its what fish do,give them a chance to bed in overnight and they will be different fish in the morning.

If its a boy as you say, then youve either just taken the pic after feeding him or else it could be an internal bacterial problems or possible dropsy. Keep an eye on him, check to see if its poo is transparent and stringy.

Fishes poo can be transparent sometimes if there is an internal bacterial problem or indeed worms.
If it an hour after feeding then it can be bloated perhaps, however it if continues until tomorrow evening also then I would suggest you boil a pea and feed the inner pea (remove from the skin) to the fish,as it aids constipation. (Remember fish have similar problems to humans sometimes too!!lol). Failing that I would just monitor the fish and the other fish for any unusual behaviour, also check to see if its scales are protruding to rules out dropsy. I think its probably nothing, abit like a new dad, checking everything to make sure there little babies are alright! Same when you have new fish!

Ps: My rams have spawned again today who hoo!

Well I think they may be fishfood again! I havent had a chance to segregate them properly again so will let nature takes its course. Strange thing is that this time I could predict it was going to happen watching the females behaviour. And even more strange is that both females are guarding the eggs along with the male! Seems unusual alright but the rummy nose tetras are fast and getting in and out on occassions to get the odd egg here and there. Just setting up my nightlight to make sure the Rams can see something during the night so that the others and particularly all the corys dont hoover those eggs up!

Yep 200 posts Dolf, you a guppy now! No longer a fry!
