Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Zac,
I personally would not hazard a guess - perhaps someone might like to, but not me.
Quite often the gender of Adults can be determined by their nature and how they react to other Angels, but there really isn't enough there to even begin to try.
Maybe someone else here can identify them for you.

Impossible to tell from that video.Wait until you have a pair angels can be very hard to determine.
Males and females of angelfish slightly differ in shape. The difference may be noticed as early as when the fish are about three months old. Males' bodies are a little oval or oblong if you watch them from the side. Females are more rounded. Also males have massive or bulky foreheads which look like humps as they get older.

Hi they look big enough to show signs of breeding,
I myself can't tell but the fish might be able to!
Condition them with lots of clean water and food, frozen bloodworm
Works well, and if there's a male there it wont be long before he starts
Showing off,
Cutting a female off while flaring his gills at the same time is one sign,

Anyone with a aquarium can keep fish,
But it takes real skill to be a fish keeper,

thanks for the second Vid, you have 3 females

just so you know how to sex them there are 5 ways to sex angels

1) the 1st black vertical stripe that passes through the eye appears tp be straighter in the male than in the female, in the female the stripe has a definate curve upwards towards the start of the dorsal fin
2)the spines at the base of the start of the dorsal fin are more jagged and irregular in the male than the female
3) the space between the extended ventral fins(feelers) and the start of the anal fin is shorter in males and less curved in females
4)the tube that appears just prior to breeding is differently shaped, in the male it appears to be more pointed and carried at a more forward angle, but in the female it appears to be blunt and appears to be carried at a slight angle to the rear
5)the lower jaw of the male slightly over laps the upper jaw, which is the reverse for the female as her upper jaw slightly overlaps her bottom jaw

hope this helps
Seamus
