Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

can anyone tell me is their any plant that i can put in with a couple of festivums, 2" + 4"

i haven't a clue about plants what they are called or even how to spell half of them but the couple of plant,s ive got from lfs the get lashed out of it, i have a few American Cychlids and the only thing the eats the plants are the festivums

they get fed twice a day mostly on Brineshrimp + Garlic and some days the just get New life spectrum or Tetra pro

and at night when i put sinking pellets in for the talking pleco's the lads go after them too

some of the Anubias species, like Anubias Barteri, they have tough rubbery leaves and work well with cichlids,
there are more types of plants that will prob work, im no expert on plants,

i have a few festivums myself and yes they will go through plants for fun,

My ones destroyed every plant in the tank, and any fish smaller enough to try and get into their mouths.
Maybe try altering their diet. I think brineshrimp twice a day is too much,my fish get frozen food once a week. Try using a food with plenty of vege matter in it,eg JBL Spirulina flakes,or the vege version of Tetra Pro. Might help, might not, don't know 'til you try.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

ooops i taught brineshrimp every day would be the best they could get
going to the lfs in the morning il see if they have some of the other foods well worth a try

and is the other food i use good (new life spectrum) and tetra pro and min
if so, is it that i should be giving more of a variety in a week to them rather than just mainly brineshrimp

They are all very good foods, use em myself. I just thought it might be worth a try to include some vege based foods, may or may not work, wanted to use you as a guinea pig for the experiment

acara,

i tried the vege version and still no change i got rid of my fesses d other day cause they are the most greedy fish i have ever came across not only did they eat everything they turned on any fish that would fit into their mouths oto's gone flying fox gone sae's gone and they even have the speed and power to take a few danios out which to me are one of the quickest fish to move and when id see a fish in its mouth, id feed them 5mins later just to see if they be interested and still they would try to take all the food

nice fish but not worth it

I find a few leaves of blanched spinach every couple of days and the odd slice of cucumber goes down a treat and helps take my fishes minds off the plants. Also Java fern seems to do ok along with any of the anubius.
