Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Co2 Fireextinguisher question

Hi everyone :)
I haven't been around for ages but life got too busy, something had to give.
But I have a question and I could really do with some advice please.

I run across a great deal on a Co2 fire extinguisher, but it's non certified second hand. Do you think I could safely go for it ?
I never had a proper Co2 set up so it would be a first time for me and I got no idea what to look out for. Any and all help would be appreciated :)

Hi
Check this www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/fire-extinguisher-co2.266/ ,it really explains how to connect, and for refilling you can go to Munster Co2 in cork, I'm always getting my canister refilled in that place, they can service for you and give advice about safety and etc.
All the equipment you can get from sponsors shops, valve, bubble counter., all depends how big is your tank, how much you want to invest, how heavy planted it will be.

Thank you :cheer:
Its a Juwel Rio 180. I just gave it a full overhaul...again ..... Changed the substrate from fine gravel to Aqua Basic plus topped with Manado, fresh plants, new wood, the works haha.
Running JBL Pro flora 80 on one side of the tank and Hagen Nutrafin on the other as neither is powerful enough to put enough Co2 into my tank. But ideally I really want to get something more permanent and controllable. So when I stumbled across that Co2 fire extinguisher I figured I should grab it while I can ..... if its a good idea with a non certified one that is.

No, haven't bought anything yet :(
But I figured I got to start somewhere and that might as well be the Co2, especially as you said, the price feels right.
Buying it bit by bit lessens the blow to my wages for sure   :P
