Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Anyone able to help out on this one ? Is there a risk it could over-run my tank?

Hi Gavin. I'm no plant expert, but I've had two pieces of bog wood with java moss attached in two tanks for the past three or four months and both are growing fine. One has high lighting and co2, the other doesn't. Neither have become over run, by any means. Occasionally pieces drift off, but they are easy to clear out. It's very undemanding and a nice addition. I wouldn't be worried about getting some if I was you. Hope that helps.

As CJackson said It's very undemanding and nearly indestructible. Ive had it nearly dry out in tubs and once wet up it comes back to life. Low light or high light it doesn't matter.
Your LFS should be able to get this for you. If not place an add in the wanted section and someone in your neck of the woods may be able to give you some to get started. I just gave away a couple of bags of it the other week.
If you can't source it give me a shout.

Thanks.
Ive ordered some from Malaysia off a guy on ebay that comes recommended by another fish keeper. So will give it a try anyhow. Trying to give abit of a natural look to my tank at the moment and this may be an ideal addition.

Hey Gavin

In the center of the picture below I have a rock in the front and back then I have 3 pieces of bog wood covered in moss rested on top. This is where my peleco and shrimp live

I used the lightest fishing line I could get to tie the moss to the bog wood, lay out the moss one strand at a time and wrap in fishing line, once the moss starts growing take out the bog wood and tie the new growth again after a while you wont see the bog wood, just a carpet of moss over it, when you need to trim it its easy to take out and trim over a container and cuttings will regrow.

I never took off the fishing line and I have had no problems with it
