Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Has anyone seen this in the lfs around dublin lately, I want to add some more plants to my tank and I am looking for something hardy as I am not too experienced, plus in hopefully the not too distand future I would like to start a shrimp tank, as soon as I can convince the other half that one tank isn't enough:laugh: , and I have read that the moss is nearly a neccesitie in these tanks.
Thanks for letting me know

got some in aquatic village tonight

which brings me nicely along to a diversion....;)

i have done a little reading and its rampant apparently

i was going to tie some to my redmoor roots
but also saw a nice idea of floating some with cork,
which sounds interesting as you can just remove so easily
or replant as you get ideas

would a slice of the missus' chablis cork be okay to use?
or do i need \"aquarium safe\" cork!! (if it even exists)

cheers

Im also happy to sort you out with this plant
But may I ask you never release this plant to the wild as we don’t know what it can do!

This Plant should never be released to Irish waters!

That is strange I am not doing anything to change my name, promise, as far as I know it is just mrs fishpatrick, did you try clicking on the little pm button under my avatar?
I tried to send you a pm just now with my email adress if that didn't arrive let me know.

Thanks

Astrid

And Limerick bandit, I wasn't planning on releasing this plant in the wild, I have 2 tanks to decorate with it, and if it still outgrows my tank, there is always the compost heap, or someone else might be looking for it at that stage.
Thanks for the advice:kiss:

Replied by Valerie (Valerie) on topic Re:another person looking for java moss
The problem you are experiencing with the PMs is probably linked to the fact that Mrs Fishpatrick's username has a space in-between. If you click on the \"send a PM\" button under the avatar, the system will automatically replace the space by \"%20\" (url encoding of the space character). So, to send you a PM, one needs to retype the full username to make sure that the space is a space ! :-)

Hope this helps.

Can I ask if this just floats (when attached to the bogwood )on top as I have some ordered in Petstop Blanch and will be collecting it tomorrow. If it was attached to bogwood that was lying on the substrate could this attach itself to the substrate?

I have also ordered Moss balls. As I am new to plants I think that this might be a way to go?

Java moss needs to be attached to something otherwise will be all over the tank, in the right setup tank will pearl oxigen bubbles and will rise to the surface and then when the bubbles detach the moss will go down again but if its any water current in the tank will get attached itself to something it looks better if its attached to bogwood, rough stones or coconut caves. Regarding substrate it will attach to the course gravel like aquagrit but not to the smooth one

Thanks arabu1973, I am not sure what gravel I have. It is the same stuff that is in the lfs tanks esp in Petstop.

Am I corect in thinking that the bubbles from the air stone
will keep it floating and the water current will make it attach to anything in the tank?

Hopefully I will attach it to a stone cave and grow it from there. would this be ok?

thanks

The gravel from petstop is smooth so the moss wont attach to that. the bubbles from airstone does make a weak current in the tank which together with the current made by the filter will make the moss to spin around like in a washmachine so it will be all over the tank so its better to attach it to something
