Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Every time i open a mag or do a random search on the net i seem to be greeted with a winning tank by zig.
I wouldn't be surprised if he won an Oscar (not the fish) at the awards last night.
And the winner is......
Congratulations again mate.

I must get you to wave those magic hands in one of my tanks.

Well tbh I didn't know anything about the spread in the magazine, haven't seen the magazine either, be nice if they told me they were using the images, but maybe the images are from The AGA competition or something like that and they have copyright I guess. Anyway not to worry, I will check it out in Easons next time I'm passing.

That tank gets a very mixed reaction anyway, some like it, some don't, was the win a flash in the pan/deserved etc. My critics need an answer (which I haven't quite organised yet:laugh: )

I am way behind schedule here, I have been down in Cork for the last seven weeks or so doing a job, Came home 2 weeks ago for a couple of days and two tanks I had running were in bad shape (blame the wife:)) one was half covered in BGA and the other had a bad case of BBA so not really competition ready:huh: didn't have time to sort them out then but have started to get rid of the algae today, but more or less back to square one really with this years entry. Picked up some nice driftwood wood when I was away.

I posted a tank up here months ago and I think my idea will be based loosely on that, I have worked on the tank since and brought the idea further but it still lacked some elements which hopefully I have now found on my trip away, it is more a design challenge really how to balance the tank correctly, one side looked good but the other didn't quite work so I needed to think about how to finish it off,I may also need to use a bigger tank as well for the idea I have in mind (a tank which I dont have in my posession,I will have to make one!;) ) so more work to do.

Thanks lads.
