Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

im thinking of doing something with java moss at some stage down the line so would need a fair bit of it,
i have an empty tank, so plan is to grow as much as possible as i dont want to have to buy loads of it,
as it is dear enough,
so was wondering the quickest way to grow it?
if anyone can give me some info on the best conditions, lighting, temp etc etc..
or any other handy tips..
thanks

Hi Craig,
The quickest way to grow Java is to have it attached, that way, more surface area is exposed to light and you get better growth, when you get good growth, clip it and use the excess by attaching it to Wood etc, mind your Light levels because you won't like trying to remove algae from it, it's a nightmare and feeding isn't necessary either just water changes and good filtration if you keep any fish in with it.
Kev.

I had a fantastic crop of it,thanks to a generous member here.I found the best way to grow it,was to throw it in a 35ltr container,a few amano and cherry shrimp,NO HEATER,and leave it on the spare bedroom floor,a little bit of direct sunlight, but not much.It grew like mad,and was very healthy and clean. There was 10 white clouds in there, fed sporadically.
As soon as it went into tropical tanks,it lost its health, and didnt grow as well. The shrimps really kept it clean and tidy.
always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

apologies for hijacking, but mine was growing far to slow (prehaps due to bad lighting), so wat i did was attach it 2 my magnet cleaner and moved it up towards the light and in good flow of tiny oxygen bubbles.
good idea or bad idea?
cheers lads, dar
Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

I had moss attached to the top of the backround in the tank and it took off the straight edges of the look, really made it river edge like, grew so fast it was invasive to the extreme:) Good light it most important I think, never any algae on it.
The moss at the top righthand bank grew out of control in the end
