Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

When I started using it I got some algae growth, as I reckon the algae was quicker to utilise the new source of carbon than the plants. But after persevering for a few weeks, the plants adapted to using the Carbo quicker than the algae and it started to diminish.

hey guys; i actually had a similiar experience- after using the JBL carbomec activ in a bag; the algae growth was incredible esp on the plants.

after removing it, straight away the algae all left the plants...so i think it must be related too somehow

Hi,
we have a 240litre planted tank and were having issues with black algae at the beginning.
We have started to use easy carbo and the algae has Nearly disappeared off the plants...
Can't say wether easy carbo effected directly the algae or else(more likely),easy carbo gave the plants a better health/ability to fight off the algae growth...
So far,We've been treating this tank on s daily basis for the last 5 months and no algae and enormous plant growth.
That is our experience for the moment.

i had a mare of a time with black algae as well as the usual in my planted tank

easi carbo gets the plants to take up more nutrients and grow faster than the algae, but you need a balance of light, carbon and fertilizers. probably your nutrient levels are actually LOW. algae is a sign of imbalance so i would recommend easi-life profito, has worked for me i dose 2ml of both easy carbo and fertilizer per 50l every day before lights on and has worked in the other tanks i have a few plants in too

The conditions for algae are there Dar, and th eeasy carbo is the kicking it all off.

Good flow, clean tank no over feeding and over stocking and a strict light schedule and use the correct amount of easy too, very easy to overdose with that stuff, best if added an hour or two before the sun comes up aswell, also if you have only a few plants lay off the easy a bit. I found that finally when my plants got established the algae disappeared

Oh ans the marine white may be a factor too
