Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I just wanna know are there any advantages to using a co2 system and or liquid fertilizer in a planted tank that has basically hardy plants such as twisted vallis/anubias nana/anubias bartei/water wisteria/amazon swords/java moss/moss balls and bacopa caroliana...

The substrate is "carib sea instant aquarium sunset gold sand"

The lighting is *T5 juwel highlights" (nature and day tubes 45Watts)

Can't all these hardy plants not just get along with a diet of nitrates and good light or would the addition of fertilizer help or would the addition of a co2 system help or would the addition of both fertilizer and a co2 system make the plants healthier and lusher?

Also while on the subject, what are peoples opinions on Seachem Flourish Excel ?

All plants will benefit from the addition of Co2 and fertilizers.
they will grow faster and more lush.
The difference between using them and not is unbelievable. You wouldnt beleave the growth of some plants when given the necessary nutrients.

As a minimum i would add something like easy-life profito and easyarbo.
Your plants will tank you for it.

Seachem Flourish Excel is similar to easy-life easycarbo. They are both a liquid form of carbon for the plants. But not the same as injecting Co2 gas.
The liquid carbon also has an ingredient the slowly kills algae.

Without doubt ya get better growth with fertilisers and co2. Use fertilizer without co2 even. Its like humans who don't get vitamins,ya ain't gonna be healthy without proper nutrition!I use profito, good results. :)

No mouth bigger than the smallest fish in tank.

I also use Profito and it's great. I also have Ferro as there was lack of it in my tank. Depanding on a plant some of them require additional doses of potasium and other trace elements and it can also be purchased from the Easy Life line. I have some plants that require CO2 fertilization, so I am going to put CO2 system, too. EasyCarbo is also a very good product but I think it is misunderstanding that it replaces CO2 fertilization. I am not an expert but I think it is acarbon supplement not a carbon dioxide source. Maybe somebody could correct me if I am wrong in this respect.
