Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

my guess would be a variety of splendens (very variable species) they are not as deep in body as standard helianthus which i was keeping at the time and the snout is shorter than the normal splendens.

yes gerry i have around 30 of these (f3s) at about an inch plus.
they are not aggressive and are best kept with the quieter malawis.

anyway to anyone whos interested this film was made 18 months ago and the fish have grown older and some have moved out and others moved in. still have the dubs and angels though. also was impressed by the quality of the young silver angel fish and will try to return to this standard and work again on this strain even for my personal satisfaction.
ps
to get to the video you have to go to page 2 and trawl to the bottom of the page, at least when logged in.

i find it great to be able to look back at old footage and be reminded of favourite fish from the past. some still with me and older, and others which may have slipped from memory. the technology of today is a great asset in helping to keep accurate records in this regard.
looking back on some of the older videos i notice that unlike utube, most photobucket films are not accessible, (message saying "this media no loger available") anyone know why this is?

it's great to have some photo's and vids of our little Buddies when We move them on etc. etc.
I make loads of Vids these days, I don't put them all up because from time to time You might get a negative comment or two from someone who hasn't a clue what they are talking about, such is life...
I find Photobucket great for Photograph storage but brutal for video
Utube all the way for Vids but You do open Yourself up to criticism when using this as I found out with an Old Redtail Catfish Vid I made a long time ago with totally inappropriate tankmates, ah well, We all have to start somewhere

if you have pics and vids to post then go ahead and post and ..c. the begrudgers. there are plenty of interested viewers who will appreciate them. the begrudgers usually have insecurity and jealousy issues and are in the minority.

fantastic fish - exactly what I'd expect from Derek's reputation!
brilliant camera work, editing & sound (that's 3 different Oscars!)
wish I had a fraction of either of their ability
