Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

The angel parent on the right looks like a smashing specimen.
I'd leave the eggs with the parents to raise. They may be poor parents, they may eat them, but if they don't then you'll get better babies and the experience to behold of parent fish tending the young.
Whichever way, get some baby food.....freshly hatched brine shrimp, liquifry or other fry food.

Aaagh, other fish? especially ones that might not be scared off by angels.
To remove the eggs would need a specially set-up tank with additional air-stone aeration and an anti-fungal.
At this late stage that would be a rushed-job and it might be just as well to leave the parents to their job and keep fingers crossed.

These eggs are probably going to be eaten by the time the sun comes up again.
But the good news is ... they have laid eggs ... they will again ... You might be ready next time to have the eggs isolated

you can simulate by having a very light drift of bubbles passing over them or having them in a very light currant caused by your filter.
in the fry tank try and keep it as minimal as possible no gravel wigglers when the fall away can get stuck in it and try and get some form of fry food they will hatch in about 3 days and possible become free swimming in about 5 to 7 days
just my own views others may differ

id say about half or a bit less of them turned white so they were not fertilised (i think)
and i got a count of about 80 wigglers today so i might see some swimmers by the end of the week
what do people think the best thing to feed them is, and where can i get it cause my lfs has nothing
last year i had loads of baby mollys 100s and i just crushed up flake food into dust, they survived ok, but took ages to grow

Infusorians
Infusorians is a suitable food for very small fish fry. You can easily grow your own Infusoria cultures at home. This way you will always have cheap and nutritious food ready for your fry. Infusorians are minuscule single cell organisms that live in water. To cultivate your own Infusoria you will only need tap water, some bruised vegetables and a few clean containers such as jars or similar.
Boil the tap water and let it cool down to room temperature. Fill the jars with the water and add some bruised vegetables to each jar. Bruised lettuce leaves or banana skins are recommended, since they are known to produce a lot of Infusoria. One banana skin or 3-4 lettuce leaves is a good amount for each jar. Do not put any lids on the jars. Place your jars in a warm place where they will receive moderate light.
The water in the jars will soon turn cloudy and begin to smell a bit. As the Infusorians develop, the smell will become increasingly sweet and the water will clear up. It will usually take 3-4 days for Infusoria to develop. When the water looks clear, you can start feeding your fry with the Infusoria. Use a siphon or a spoon to remove the Infusoria from the top of the jar and place it in your fry aquarium. Make sure not to bring any plant material from the Infusoria jars over to the fry rearing tank, since this can pollute the water. Start developing new Infusoria culture every 3-4 day to make sure you always have enough food for your fry until they are big enough to eat larger food.
