Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Is this normal or could it be a female
I thought this was the female although she goes into the
Cave to do a little dance for him or her
Either way I'm delighted!
Thanks dessie

Anyway, it's good to see more success being had with the 'less common' Apistos (not that they are quite as 'rare' as they had been).
I hope they hatch.

Something quite strange happened!
I had one more look in last night and the eggs had gone!
Bit sad over this but still happy that I have a breeding pair.
So this morning the male was still in the shell and low and behold
The eggs are back again!
Do apistos move eggs?

I have had apistos moving eggs. Usually if they are disturbed they will either eat them or move them. I'd probably leave them them alone to get on with it. As its tgeir first spawn don't be surprised if they don't get it right
Cheers ricko,
Will do.

I had 3 males 3 females,
When they first paired up they spawned twice
So I sold the rest 2 males
And a female!
And a lad here johnh said I would be better off keeping
Them as it would give them better parental care!
But would I listen?
No and true to his word they haven't spawned since I sold them!

Right here we go again,
These lads spawned again either last night or early
Thismorning!
They have changed spawning sites,
I observed some spawning behavior last night so had idea
They were going to go!
I think they may be infertile because the first two
Times the male was guarding them
And wouldnt let the female near them
And now he hasn't been near them as far as I could see!

Good luck with the spawning as it is a great sight to see the guarding females intense colouring as she guards and herds the cloud of fry.

Thanks for letting me know
As you can see I clearly didn't know that!
Won't be shining any more light in.
Cheers!
