Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Howaya Mark

I didn't separate Them either the first day or two but then noticed there was a little less Fry and any time the Male came close to the Female She chased Him away, so I took Him out, the Female & the Fry seem to be getting on ok, She seems to be fairly good with Them, so far, so good...

hongsloi's are a lovely Apisto, hopefully They breed again soon

Well done!
What size tank is that you have them in?

Anyone with a aquarium can keep fish,
But it takes real skill to be a fish keeper,

cheers Ciaran

They're in a 54 litre tank with a Eheim 2232 Ecco
the filter is stuffed with Peat Pellets (JBL Tormec)
I got the PH down to 5.5 before I added the Pair
26°C temperature, cryptocoryne along the back and just one Coconut Shell in the tank, nothing else, just wanted to keep the layout as simple as possible.
didn't like the thought of adding one Male and three Females (but almost did)
prefer the thought of just one Pair...
took Them about 2 to 3 weeks before They Bred, I'll be keeping a close Eye on Them, lovely Fish...

@ Melander
Cheers Andreas, I'm fairly into the video editing, more so music editing, that's My music in the Vid, the original tune drones on for another couple of minutes, I thought the ambient feel of the tune would suit the scene ???
also the fact that the notes are droney and sustained, The aburpt ending suits I think...
I didn't realise the volume was so high until after it was finalized...

Hi All

Thought it might be time for an update on the Apisto Fry
Recorded some more footage the other day (26th)
got around to editing it tonight...

I removed the Male & the Female from the Tank and added some shrimp & ottocinclus to the Tank to keep the Algae under control.
I removed the Male because He seemed a bit agressive around them and the Female.
I removed the Female a couple of days later mainly because the number of Fry had reduced and I thought She might have accidentally scoffed some or something like that.
I'd say there is about 15 to 20 Fry remaining.
Not sure if it was a good idea to remove the Mother or to have added the Ottos etc. etc.
I suppose I'll find out in time...
Anyway here's the update Vid, I suggest watching it on the Youtube page in 1080p resolution as it makes a big difference in the clarity of the Vid...

cheers

well done mate looking good, the female may have eaten some fry so removing her was a spot on instinct, if bored and not protecting them from others then she can turn on the fry and eat them or if she feels she is unable to defend them then her instinct would be to eat them and regain the protein she lost hatching and rearing them. keep us informed of the progress
