Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Craybies was created by des (des)
Procambarus clarkii

Made a quick Vid of the latest batch of clarkii "Craybies"
They're about 10 days old.
they are kept in an unheated 30 litre tank with a sponge filter (only turned on a few hours a day)
Ph 7ish, 50% water change about once a month, they create very little waste and the parameters (NH3, NO2, NO3) are (almost) always zero...
the Mother is white and the Father is Orange.
They all look to be white so far but I haven't had a close look yet.
I didn't want to disturb them just yet but I'll have a closer look in the next day or two, if I find any that look orange I'll separate them.
I'll make more Vids soon...

Hey Shea

You'd be surprised how little attention they need.
I'll up the water changes a little bit now because of the babies...
I've been keeping them a while now and they always do best in this kind of set-up, really still water, they seem to prefer less aeration and after that just avoid the extremes...
plenty of food when they're young as the grow very quickly, I always love this part as they can hunt live daphnia and it's amazing looking at them all chasing down and jumping up to catch the daphnia...
very easy to keep/breed, it's trying to separate them all to ensure a high survival rate that's the tricky bit, I'd end up with one or two big ones eating all the rest if I didn't start separating them soon...

...said I'd make a follow up Vid of the baby Crayfish
They are coming along really well, showing some interesting colours, some even kind of blue/purple-ish looking.
Cool, considering the Parents are White n' Orange...

cheers

Very cute and great video, laughed several times at their "jumping".

Would the adults not prey on the little ones?

I love when they're at this stage, They can be hilarious, They definitely keep Me amused anyway...
They're on a constant food mission, running n' flying around the place...

It's very impressive to watch Them hunt n' catch live Daphnia, the subject of My next Video...

Very happy with all the colour variations, I must say.

I'm going to split Them up and move Them around soon, I don't have much to fear of the Adults eating Them, great Parents actually, They don't bother the Babies at all, Not even if They are sitting on They're back...
This would change if They where of a similar size, They'll only put up with Them for so long, especially in a 30 litre...

I might have to sacrifice a 120 litre Endler breeding Tank to raise most of the Crayfish Babies.
I want to make sure of a low mortality rate with this Breed, Priority given to the ones with the odd colour variations...
