Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Have you a pair or 2 fish because 1 is not the same as the other! What are your water parameters? If they areat the right age and a compatable pair they will spawn but as hammie said, you might go throught females to find a compatable pair... what size is the tank because I'd recommend a big 1 and a spare for recovery.
You will get more answers through google and see breeders setups ;)

Below tank is for sale

These two are just over 5 inches in size tank is 400l ph around 7.6 last time checked, cant remember the amonia ,those are kinda bonnie and clyde hate all fish around but distance betwean two never exceeds couple inches , and i never ever seen them fighting at all i believe its first love or something, im sure they never kill each other thats for 99.9% but rest might suffer, also guys any ideas about other fish eating eggs or they are protective enough ?

Id be removing anyone else that you value from your tank to breed the jd's

Ive had 1 incident in the past where a jd went on a rampage and "cleaned house" one night and killed most of the inhabitants!!!
He wasnt even protecting eggs or anything

Jd's can make brilliant parents again keep an eye on the male, he may get pver protective and kill the female too

Plenty of articles available on line to read from people with experience

Sounds like your dempsey was pist or something, probably others left him without food that day ,so he decided to change his diet lol ,there is not so many issues with mine so far, and i hope it wont be any i have in total only 12 fish in that 400l fish tank and biggest is dempsey just over 5" i think they should have enough space to live without fighting, but sure you never know, what size your tank and many fish you had in it ? And thanks on advice i will watch after him if so i just separate him using mesh in the same tank
