Guppy fry - what to feed ?
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Just a quick hopefully easy one but wondering whats best to feed new fry using Interpet Liquifry 2 at the moment but theotherhalfis worried they are not growing about a week now and very little change in size.
Anyone got any tricks up their sleeves or recommendations on brands to use?

frozen brime are good. the dried well personally i find they are a waste and most of what i have read agree. frozen daphina and blood worms are always handy blood worms i would hold off on till fry are 3/4inch size then they should be big enough to pull apart at the moment i would give the flakes make sure the lid is tight and shake to reduce in size to smaller bite size. also if you have plec tablets there is usually a lot of dust at bottom that again is very good and easy to acquire. one NOTE:evil: i find all food but especially the tablets it is best to have a spoon to handle the moisture from your hand and tank will cause it to go off

No idea, never have used fairy shrimp. They seem to be pretty new on the market.I'm quite happy with brineshrimp. I decapsulate the eggs (a matter of minutes)and have freshly hatched brineshrimp within 12 hours.

No problem,
I posted this before
Here is what you need:
-1/2 teaspoon of artemia eggs (depending on how many you need)
-30-40g of salt, make sure it isn't iodinized. Health shops sell it.
-100ml 5% bleach, the cheapest stuff you can find, no pine smell here please
-an old marmelade jar and closely fitting lid unless you like white blotches on your clothes
-artemia net
-an empty philadelphia box or similar
-vinegar
-1litre bottle with airstone in it (the same one you've probably been using all along)
-water
And here how it's done
-fill the Philadelphia box with vinegar to a height of approx 1cm.
-bleach, artemia eggs into the marmelade jar, close the lid and shake until the whole thing turns orange.
-empty the whole jar into an artemia net and stand into the vinegar. This will neutralize the chloride (you can use water conditioner instead of the vinegar if you like). Careful the fumes are toxic, do not inhale them.
-flush the whole thing with water and wash the decapsulted eggs into the bottle add salt and water as per usual and depending on temperature you will be able to harvest live bbs within 12 hours without all the mess usually associated in seperating the shells from the naupilii.
