Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

So it’s more of a Mistake to have a UGF, and more of a miracle if you can get them to breed?

Ihave to say the most interesting thing thing read on breeding was from Russia but in this case this was using hormone injections and talks of cross breeding so not my cup of tea. but it would be useful to protect wild stock numbers.

The discovery of fry in a u/g may be the little bit of information that we as want to be breeders have been looking for!

it may be that we need to consider a strata to suite this! normal shingle available is about ten mm maybe we should consider in a large tank something about 25mm it is possible at an early stage the fry use their small size to allowed them to feed and grow in safe environment this would be ideal area for small snails and crustaceans which would provide a rich and healthy supply of food, And as noted in the link article keeping in larger groups would be a must.

Replied by john gannon (john gannon) on topic Re:clown loach
i was just curios about this as i have 10 of these at about 1 1/2 inches, there in my main tank but will eventually go into a tank of there own,i am after reading somewhere that they grow quite slow and would have to be about 8 inches before they could breed so this project would be on a very long finger if it ever happened
on a side note my 10 never all shoal together its always in small groups of 3 and 4 ,will this change as they get older

i Only have 3       :( :( :( :( :( any time i visited our sponsors they had none in stock and when i seem them locally well ............

i have noticed that they seem to have a social order and will group accordingly while i have not seen many thus far over six inches this seems common thus i would follow the belief what you are seeing is natural

my understanding there is only one know loach that will shoal but the name escapes me maybe Daragh Owens or some one else will have a better input.
