Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Just some 24 hours after introducing the females to the tank and they have spawned. They just laid eggs but I would expect the other fish in the tank and other ram to take advantage now and get a good feed :(
Here is a picture.

Anyone know will they breed regularly now?

Yeah, its great, the female dug out a nice spot next to where she laid the eggs by the flower pot. The male is guarding the eggs at the moment but everytime I check there seems to be less,I think some of the Rummy tetras are zipping in and out while the Ram chases the other away. Man Im stunned they spawned so soon! Do they continue to spawn now or how will it go?!

Congratulation Gavin. That certainly was a quick spawn.
I cant help you with how regular they will spawn. I know there are others on here that have these and one of them should be able to help.
If you have a spare tank you may have better luck with them.

Thanks, yeah it was a quick spawn and its great that they are spawning. I hope that they continue to spawn into the future, could have difficulty getting another tank past herself here!! Id like it though. Would a 20 or 30 litre tank do for them once they spawn? (Probably too small but its all I got spare) :(

The male minding the eggs, alot of them being picked off overnight but left a small light on in the room so that she could see her corner of the tank.

Congrats on getting them spawn! If there anything like Bolivian Rams they'll breed every 3/4 weeks. That's if you keep up with water changes to keep water quality of a high standard. If you got them to spawn this early, water quality must be good. Give them a high quality diet of sinking pellets/wafers, frozen food and live food if you can get it. In my experience with Bolivian Rams the parents eat their own eggs the first few spawns until they gain experience.

Thanks Ted,
Some of the eggs are going white as I expected but still a few left also however they are being picked off slowly but surely. The male has minded them throughout but the female has on occassions left her guard drop and even picked one or two off and then chases others away! Ironic!
But yes Im delighted the tank is flying it at the moment.
Contents are as follows:

3 x freshwater shrimp (3 that Ive seen, could and should be more but never see them!).
2 x sterbai cory
3 x Golden Ram (1 male & 2 females)
5 x Panda Corys
7 x Neons tetras
7 x Rummy Nose tetras
1 x Pleco
2 x molly fry (now 5 months old so prob not fry anymore!)
