Air Pump

Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Thanks Derek. I recently added an internal filter which adds great movement to the water. Thought the air pump as well might be just a little too much agotation.Contact number for Steve would be great. Don't want to start another OA war!!!

Don't want to start another OA war!!!
Even that would make a welcome break from the 'Flea Market' (to quote a Forum member) this afternoon out of twenty posts 14 were in 'for sale and wanted' section!!!
Come back OA (and other meaningful discussion topics) - All is forgiven!

OK here goes. Ive used the packets of OA in my 90L and 130L for some years with great success until....Some months ago I purchased the larger containers of OA. The B Bac was labeled Marine BBac, I was told that it was ok for freshwater tanks. When doing water changes in my 90L I washed the filters as usual but began losing fish after each water change. I also have had two incidences of white spot in the last couple of months though never had white spot in the previous years. When doing water changes in the 130L I did'nt wash the filters and hav'nt had problems with this tank. Ive lost some confidence and am now also using Easy Life and got some PolyFilter.
This leads me to believe that the OA I am using is not as effective as the individual packets or its past its sell by date. i have had great faith in the OA product but Im slowly losing that. The product is'nt cheap but I felt it was worth it because that was all I was using in my tanks. Never had to buy any other meds or water treatments, but now the press has more medications than Boots.
Thats my rant over.

when using any of these very good products it is not a good idea to mix them. i imagine polyfilter will reduce the effectiveness of organic or easylife and vice versa. so try to stick with one of them.
u could try starting fresh with organic by emptying a tank and re filling with tapwater brought to correct temperature, clean all filters and add starter organic. i am sure this would work.
it is also possible that the marine bbac is not suitable and/or out of date.
did u add any new fish that may have introduced a disease?
also try to contact steve as he would be best able to answer any questions.
good luck, hope you get sorted.

Thanks for your help. I suppose it was like throw everthing in something is bound to work. It does seem that the OA is out of date. As I said its not cheap so was reluctant to dump it.
Thanks again.
