Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

hi folks,
I hadnt seen this guy for a day or soin my main tank, went looking for him and saw him motionless under a rock (he's in a malawi setup and has been there for at least a year, todate all i've seen is the odd pick at his fin but nothing serious and normally he's fine)
anyways I lifted up rock and he swam but it was very laboured, easy to catch, caugh him and put him in seprerate tank (that has loads of algae) noticed a yellow patch on belly that seems so be growing in size. He's been in seperate take since Friday and seems to be ok(ish), I think he got trapped under rock and fear some damage but he fine on his top side, no visible marks/damage, am a bit clueless to what is wrong, would apprecaite and idea or what I should do. One thing i did notice was a reddish tint where the fins meet the body.
sorry, picture not great
cheers,
Tom

Tommy,
The fish might only be suffering from having been 'stuck' and may hopefully get better.
It's hard to offer a suggestion regarding any treatment, but I personally would try to ensure there is a goodly flow of water close by it, either from the outflow of a power heater, or a strategically-placed airstone.
And - as with all these things - keep a close watch.
Hope it recovers.

well folks just though I let you know he made a great recovery, what amazed me was the depth of the lesions, he's back to his happy self and had a big feed on all the algae that grew in tank while he was on sick leave,
i have a new found respect for these guys, i just couldnt imagine one of my malawis make such a recovery.

Plecos are know to be very tough so they are ;-)
i made a mistake before when changing my tank around and my pleco was out of the water for over 1 hour.
I was devastated when when lady shout that she found him outside on the piece of bog wood we had check but he was hiding in a hole..I got him out and put him cack in the tank and he was fine, this is just how tough they are.I was told if your pleco dies then its time to worry about your tank.glad your one is back to full health :)
