Jbl Punktol ultra - White spot treatment
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Can someone just clarify the dosage for me please. This is what it says on the instructions.
"Dosage JBL Punktol Ultra:
10 ml of 100 litres aof water. A repeat dose can be given on the 3rd, 5rd day etc. if required, in full strength. 10 ml are sufficient for 1000 litres of aquarium water."
I have a 330 litre. Therefore should I use 33ml ? I just got a little confused when it says 10ml are sufficient for 1000l. Anyone used this before?

Thankyou ceech. Noticed it also said on the instructions limited proof that can cause cancer, avoid contact with skin. bearing in mind I will be putting my hands in the water albeit a day after a dose should I be worried?

I think that under such dilution you needn't be too worried - especially after 24 hours.
I think the warning is more from undiluted 'straight from the container' liquid.
Obviously care still needs to be taken, but possibly the danger would be far less of a worry.
Over to IGM...

I've not used this product.....but it looks like a copy of eSHa Exit (except eSHa Exit contains an additional acridine ingredient). So had a look at JBLs catalogue.
It is the gentian violet (as one of its many trade names) that is reported as having limited evidence of cancer causing....but the material safety data sheet for that also cites it as a serious hazard to aquatic life !!
(old aunties would have recommended using that stuff on rotting fingers after you'd chewed your finger nails too much

).
But the message with any chemical is that everything is toxic and it is the dose that makes it poisonous or not...ie follow the recommended dosing regimen and the risks are kept to a minimum.
If any medication were not toxic or harmful then it would not be of much use as a medicine !!

Nice one mr I !!! I was just about to eat a nice Pork Sausage when I read your " ROTTING FINGER " ref, ugh!!
I agree with your comment about medicine being of no use If it killed nothing, after all, that's the whole point in using it.
Kev.
