Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

disease immunity and odd jelly gunk

Sorry about the title, but you figure it out when you read the post

Remember when I said I had only 1 little Rasbora left and I expected him to die soon too ?
Well he is still alive and doing fine. Do you think he developed somehow an immunity against whatever killed the others ?

I havent been adding any treatment at all to the tank because on Monday morning I woke up to find the water all of a sudden really cloudy. I mean, I "couldnt see the fish in my 55 liter tank tank" cloudy. Tested the parameters ... all perfect. Did a quick waterchange (12 liters) and then had to rush to work. Came home to find the water even worst. This is when I realised that it was the glass what was covered in a jelly like layer of gunk. Everywhere were water would be (splashes from the filter current even) was covered in it. I caught my poor little fish (needed extra light to find him), put him into a bowl and did a 100 percent waterchange. Dumped the gravel, cleaned the plants, cleaned absolutely everything (except the filter media, that got only a rinse in fishtank water)
Put everything back into the tank, refilled it and put fishy back in.
He is doing absolutely perfect and the jelly like stuff didnt come back either. No idea what it was.

Any ideas on both topics would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi Katie, without someone analysing a scraping of it under Microscope it's impossible to say.

Hi Kev :)

hmmm, are you talking about the immunity or the gunky jelly stuff on the glass ? I guess the glass.
How good are the chances of my little fishy pulling through this in this stage do you think ?

If the Fish has lasted it could be immune by now, the gunk is a strange one, remember, an empty tank WILL develop growth on various surfaces because there is nothing to disturb or clean it off.

I hope he/she is immune now. Feel so sorry for it being all alone though :( Cant be feeling very secure.

The jelly stuff is a strange one. Tried googling it, but even tho others seem to have similiar things happening I didnt find a single explanation. Strangest thing was that the tank was perfect when I went to bed (around midnight) and it a complete mess by 6am the next morning  Too fast for anything really.
Just hoping to not have it coming back.
